Visit us to buy something handmade, bespoke and personal at Manchester Craft & Design Centre. If you need a break from the humdrum of the city or a holiday from the high street, you’ll find an altogether different shopping experience at MCDC. An oasis of calm in the city – we’re just five minutes from Manchester’s main shopping areas of Market Street, the Arndale Centre and Afflecks Palace.
Situated in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter with its coffee shops, restaurants, bars and independent retailers, the Centre occupies a converted Victorian market building, complete with many of its original and quirky fixtures and fittings.
EXHIBITIONS, EVENTS & WORKSHOPS
The Centre also runs an exciting and varied exhibitions programme showcasing both British and international contemporary craft and design. Our popular events programme gives you the opportunity to learn craft skills from our resident artists and exhibitors, and if you’re an aspiring or established designer-maker we offer a range of professional development activities as part of our free digital MCDC Network.
Access
Manchester Craft & Design Centre is committed to improving access for our customers, and we aim to ensure that all disabled visitors have an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately our two-storey Victorian building currently has no lift, making first floor access difficult for visitors with mobility restrictions.
On the ground floor we have an accessible toilet which has a Radar lock, and a key is also available at our Oak St. Café Bar. Disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders are available on Copperas Street, and we welcome guide dogs and hearing dogs. Large print interpretation text for our temporary exhibitions is available on request.
The ground floor toilet has baby change facilities, and our Café also has high chairs for younger visitors.
Our management team and resident artists are happy to assist your visit, for example by bringing products downstairs, providing audio-description, or by helping to carry buggies or prams upstairs.
Please contact the management office on 0161 832 4274 or email info@craftanddesign.com to discuss your requirements.
