Gallery of Costume, The

Manchester City Galleries forms part of Manchester City Council’s Cultural Directorate, which also includes Cultural Strategy and the Renaissance in the Regions North West programme.

Manchester City Galleries operates two venues in the city:

— Manchester Art Gallery
— Gallery of Costume, Platt Hall

We care for the city’s internationally renowned and Designated collections of fine art, decorative art and costume.

The Gallery of Costume is a small gallery with few public events, but a very friendly and approachable team. Please get in touch if you require support with your visit.

We do not have a lift to the first floor, but we have an introductory film to the collections which can be viewed on the ground floor.

We can offer audio description and opportunities to handle the collection by appointment.

Accessible Parking by appointment, Drop Off Point is on Platt Lane.

The Gallery of Costume welcomes visitors with disabilities. There is parking next to the entrance (please telephone 0161 245 7245 in advance for assistance) and independent wheelchair access to the ground floor via a ramp to the main door.

There are stairs with handrails to the first floor. Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome.

The fully accessible toilets are on the ground floor.
